How To Make Holiday Memories With Your Kids

This holiday season, it’s important to know how to make holiday memories with your kids.

The holidays are supposed to be the most magical time of the year.

Yet, for many, it becomes a time of doing all the things without really spending quality time doing what we love most!

Between the holiday baking, shopping, and holiday parties, it can get hectic fast, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice spending quality time with your kids!

The holiday season is actually the best time of year to really settle in, be present, and make lifelong memories doing things you love the most.

Your kids deserve to experience the joy and wonder that Christmas time brings. You get to help them create the best memories that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

How exciting is that?!

Here are 4 tips for making holiday memories during this special time of year fun and stress-free.

Make a holiday craft

Making a craft doesn’t have to be overwhelming, messy, and frustrating!

If you aren’t quite the Pinterest mom of the year but want to be able to make some fun homemade keepsakes with the kids, outsource.

No, don’t outsource spending time with your kids, but instead, outsource the task of activity organization and planning!

Ordering a craft kit from Oriental Trading or heading to your local craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Michales is a great way to bring a little holiday crafting into your season without any overwhelming planning.

There are so many options when it comes to holiday traditions, and making easy crafts can be one of them. You can create an advent calendar, make paper snowflakes with construction paper, holiday cards, a gingerbread house, or Christmas stockings.

The key here is to play to your strengths and use the resources that have been created just for you. Etsy, Amazon, and craft stores have loads of kits that you can easily help your kids assemble without needing to have a single crafting bone in your body.

Everyone will have a blast, and there will even be a few extra homemade decorations to put around the house this year.

Make a new holiday tradition

Kids thrive with repetition, which means they really love traditions during the holiday season.

This can be something as simple as watching a holiday movie while snuggling on the couch with a warm blanket.

You could even add another comforting touch, such as drinking hot chocolate with candy canes and a few extra marshmallows for fun!

It doesn’t take much to create holiday magic for kids. They are ready and willing to put in a little extra imagination and trust to create Christmas memories with you.

Think of fun activities or a special treat you are prepared to do every year that everyone will enjoy. If you or your kids don’t have fun, then you won’t be likely to repeat it every year.

You could go see Santa Claus at the mall, have a special family dinner, make holiday decorations together, cut your own Christmas tree, or plan a holiday concert in your living room.

The sky is the limit here!

Go on a drive to see Christmas lights

A nice leisurely drive to look at holiday lights can be relaxing and exciting at the same time.

You could make it even a little more exciting by having a holiday light competition with your family.

Create a scavenger hunt before you leave the house and give everyone things to look for on the drive. The winner gets the most marshmallows in their hot cocoa!

Alternatively, see who can find the best light display among all your family members if you have younger children.

It can be a relaxing drive or a fun game. Either way, this is a great opportunity to make special memories with your kids and create a little holiday cheer.

Tap into the magic of the holidays with this low-key, festive, fun activity.

Bake Christmas cookies your own way

Baking is usually a big part of Christmas traditions, but if it’s stressing you out, you can hack it!

You get to choose how you want to feel and how you want to show your holiday spirit. Sometimes all the holiday events and things you need to do can get overwhelming.

Make your holiday season the way you want it to be, including choosing what and how you bake.

This is a time to create new memories and family traditions with your young kids. Make baking fun by taking shortcuts.

If you plan ahead, you can create all the cookie dough and pie dough up to three months ahead of time and storing them in your freezer.

Then all you need to do is pull them out and bake!

If it’s too late for that, you can buy pre-packaged cookies or pie dough.

There are different ways to make baking stress-free and to create special traditions with your whole family.

Conclusion

The truth is, the Christmas season comes with the feelings of “needing” to be jolly, but that just isn’t how it feels for everyone. You get to reserve the right to feel how you feel during the holiday season free of judgment!

Give yourself and your family a holiday season filled with Christmas cheer the easy way by doing what makes you feel the most joy.
