How to Get It All Done by Tapping into a State of Flow

Using a state of flow to accomplish all of your tasks and reach your goals is the ultimate method of time bending!

The concept of “flow” was first introduced by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.  The Theory of Flow defined the concept of flow as a mental state of complete absorption in an activity. It’s a state in which people are so focused on what they’re doing that everything else fades away, giving the experience a sense of timelessness and effortless action.

When we are in a state of flow, we feel a sense of purpose and fulfillment.  Productivity and efficiency soar, while also increasing the opportunities for a better quality of life. Flow is a state that can be tapped into for any and all types of projects, hobbies, and work tasks.

Using flow to lead to an increased quality of life requires the intentional integration of a few components. This allows us to do a better job at any task we’re committed to accomplishing. You get more done with more efficiency when you’re able to fully immerse yourself in the task.

1. Aligned Activities

Flow is most easily achieved when we’re engaged in an activity that we enjoy and that challenges us just enough to keep us engaged.

Think of it as the “just right challenge”, where it is challenging but not overwhelmingly difficult. The activity must match our skills and interests.

Even more importantly, they should align with the vision of what we want for the future. In this way, we can figure out the direct path from where we are to get where we want to go.

We can then use this to help identify our values and priorities and take action based on the person we really want to become.

2. Reduce Distractions

Distractions can break our concentration and prevent us from achieving a state of flow. Try to eliminate distractions when possible by finding a quiet space or turning off notifications on your phone or computer.

The concept of ‘timebending’ allows us to focus our attention so intently on one task that it feels like we’re able to collapse time. This feeling of being able to bend time to our will allows us to become more efficient than we ever thought possible.

3. Set Clear Intentions

Before setting measurable goals, it’s important to focus on what you really want to accomplish and how you want to feel in the process. In this way, you’ll be able to take aligned action to achieve your desired result.

Setting clear intentions can help us focus our attention and energy while engaging in the task. It can also be helpful to align an intention for writing specific goals.

Setting goals that are challenging but achievable can take individual opportunities to engage in tasks and string them together to create a larger outcome by tapping into the state of flow consistently.

4. Get Into The Zone

Flow is often described as being “in the zone.” This means being fully present and focused on the task at hand.

There are a variety of ways to get into the zone. They include deep breathing, body presence, visualization, and meditation strategies.

You can recognize when you’re in this state of flow when your body calms down and you’re only focused on the present moment.

Your mind isn’t wandering or worrying about other things and you feel centered and without thought.

5. Embrace Challenges

We don’t want to be bored or complacent by standing in the same place and never growing or learning.

When choosing tasks that give the “just right challenge”, flow will naturally follow.

Using mindset strategies to shift thoughts and belief patterns can also create a rippled impact.

Challenges are bound to be a part of the process, but can truly be embraced as opportunities with mindset practices in action.

This allows us to embrace these opportunities to challenge ourselves to learn and grow without causing overwhelm or anxiety.

6. Practice Mindfulness for a State of Flow

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and aware of our thoughts and feelings.

Practicing mindfulness can help us achieve a state of flow. This helps us let go of distractions and focus on the task at hand.

By focusing on our body and our senses we’re able to bring our attention to the present moment and prevent our minds from wandering.

This helps us get into a state of flow.

We can practice this with small, routine tasks at first, like brushing our teeth. This allows us to get better and move on to larger, more focused tasks.

7. Take Breaks

It’s important to take breaks when we’re engaged in a challenging activity. Taking breaks allows us to recharge and refocus. They can help us maintain our productivity and efficiency over the long term.

The important thing to remember here is that it’s not that we’re taking breaks, it’s how we’re doing it.

Taking a break in itself is not the point. It’s more about what we’re doing to reconnect with ourselves during that time.

How are you filling your cup? There are many different ways to do so. Some include being in nature, gardening, going to the beach and grounding in the sand, or taking a bath and grounding in the water.

Be aware of the intention of the break and do things that allow you to create the desire of who you want to become so you can take aligned action later.

Conclusion: How To Get Into A State Of Flow

Tapping into a state of flow can help us achieve our goals and live a more fulfilling life. It can be a skill set in itself to consistently achieve the state of flow.
